The National Alliance on Mental Illness in El Paso (NAMI El Paso) is a grassroots, non-profit organization. Our mission is to advocate at all levels to ensure that persons affected by mental illness receive services they need and deserve, in a timely fashion.
We are family members, caregivers, consumers, community professionals, and citizens who share NAMI’s mission and purpose. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life for people living with mental illness in El Paso. Through free public education classes and support groups, available in English and Spanish, we work to reduce the stigma that surrounds mental illness. Find Help. Find Hope.
The families and members of NAMI El Paso are here to help! We offer understanding to anyone concerned about mental illnesses and the treatment of mental illness.
Mental illnesses are brain disorders that are biologically based medical problems. Untreated, they can cause severe disturbances in thinking, feeling and relating. This results in substantially diminished capacity for dealing with the ordinary demands of life. Mental illness can affect persons of any age and occur in any family. They are not caused by bad parenting and are not evidence of weakness of character.
The mission of NAMI El Paso is to provide advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives.
NAMI El Paso envisions a world where all persons affected by mental illness experience resiliency, recovery and wellness.
